Artstübli

Project

Founder and owner Philipp Brogli launched the project as a PDF magazine in 2005. This was followed by various exhibitions in alternative locations, before the project space of the same name for the promotion of urban art and culture found its permanent home in the market halls near the SBB railway station. Alongside Philipp Brogli, Sebastien Pierre Portron works as an art mediator and Severin Brunner is a creative director, with various freelancers contributing to individual projects. The space, which shows around four exhibitions each year, has large window facades through which the art is visible from the exterior. Providing a platform and forum for exchange, the focus is on showcasing urban art and bringing graffiti art and street art to the public. Alongside gallery-based projects, this also includes urban art tours within the city and along Basel’s railway lines. Artstübli also coordinates Kunst am Bau projects and other urban interventions. Artstübli relies on synergy and maintains a dialogue with various cultural players within the city; it has also set itself the task of supporting and mentoring selected artists.
